John, I believe the spots are a trait in this fish. I remember people referring to this fish as Otopharynx Heterodon Big Spot.

These are actual pics of father. In the first pic that's one of the fems below it's eisier to see her body marking's. The male was gorgeous, blue face , gold body not yellow but a real nice gold you don't often get. The longer I had him the more the blue crept into the body. A truly nice looking fish, nicer than the scab fish pictured earlier. No offence but the previous pic's are young fish that are not in great shape.
