Two 1,000 Gallon tanks (Left) and two 675 Gallon tanks (Right)
60
Cinder Blocks laid out and filled with concrete
61
Floors of the tanks were graded with sand to create a sloped bottom that will allow all waste to settle in one corner. The sand was covered with thick foil-backed insulation to form a smooth bottom and insulate the tank from the cold slab.
62
Firestone EPDM liner was dropped in and secured with Trex decking screwed into the concrete.

Right now I just have two 250 Watt heaters in each one and they are handling it fine. I installed an additional heating system zone for stainless coil heat exchangers for each tank, but have not installed it yet. Scheduled for install in 3 weeks.
I'm using double stacked sponge filters at this time, they are working so well they might be the permanent solution.

Good to see the progression. I'm envious. You coud probably grow out some 1" Koi without any heat and have them at a nice size for late spring. Cha-ching:a-okhand:

Didn't I tell you about this Spud? EPDM pond liners, or dam liners, right?
Hey Jerry, yes I recall you telling me about them but seeing the pics, I have more of an idea what you meant. They look awesome.

Great for growout tanks. :bandit:
Right you are sir!
The first four tanks were built as breeding tanks for large colonies of Mpimbwe frontosa, Burundi frontosa, Cyprichromis Kerenge and Paracyprichromis nigripinnis. I have room to construct about 20 more of these "tanks", which are planned to be mostly growout "tanks".

What are the dimensions? Did you use rebar or just concrete? Very cool idea I was looking into the very large fiberglass aquariums that Aquatic Ecosys makes but this is very good idea you've put together.
Thanks,
Dane
