I just wanted to post my experiences with ProSalt Frozen Fish Food (website is http://www.midjerseypetsupply.com/) and also I wanted to know if any of you guys ever used them.
They are sold locally at Tropiquarium (I live real close to it, but because of their horrible cichlid stock and markups I only buy frozen food, supplies, or basic tropical fish from them) at dirt cheap prices compared to SFBB and Hikari flat pack foods.
Here's what I have bought and used from them:
ProSalt Krill: It isn't as orange as SFBB brand, maybe a little freezer burned but it has various sizes frozen in it from mostly big-HUGE pieces to small pieces only about 2-3" long (if stretched out). The water it is frozen with (barely any water) is clean and overall it seems to be great quality. Plus I noticed that thier variety is softer when thawed than SFBB brand's making it easier for smaller fish not quite big enough to swallow whole pieces to tear off meat.
ProSalt Ocean Plankton/Pacific Krill: Again great quality. It is a little messy but the mess is just small bits of the plankton mixed in with the whole pieces which is fine with me because that allows smaller fish to get some of it, but other than that there aren't any fillers or wasteful water included.
ProSalt Black Mosquito Larvae: I haven't used this yet, just bought two 4oz Flat Packs today but it looks EXTREMELY clean through the plastic and looks just like our native mosquito larvae you'd see in local scum water pools. Plus at 14% protein minimum I can't wait to guinea pig my guppies to see how they like it!
ProSalt Prawn: This is basically frozen freshwater river/grass shrimp. The shrimp are GIGANTIC, much bigger than the krill. However, I noticed that the water in this is messy and sometimes I got whole frozen snails included (which is where I think my pond snail infestation in my tank came from, though my fish don't complain!). I stopped using this after I had a fish choke on it and develop so many problems that I had to euthanize it. The problem was the fish (a 7" Buccochromis rhoadesi) ate WAY TOO MANY prawn than he could both swallow nor regurgitate. Otherwise, it seemed to be a good food to feed to LARGE (8"+) fish, though Krill is probably healthier.
Those are the products I've used under their line. Has anyone else bought ProSalt brand before? They seem to be a good local company...
