I recently bought 400 strips (80 strips per pack, and I got 5 packs) of universal pH paper that covers the whole range 1-14 off a seller on eBay. It arrived today and works great! You only get an approximate reading based on the color the paper turns (however, the company that makes it does make special litmus paper that has more accurate readings for say in .5 intervals instead of 1.0 intervals).

This is the seller on eBay I bought the universal 400strip pack. The price including shipping was $7.15 and it arrived from Hong Kong in approximately 5 business days (one full week, ordered last Thursday and it was shipped that Friday):

I definitely recommend this stuff as a quick and VERY inexpensive way to test pH versus the test strips and liquid tests available at LFS's here in the USA.
For those of you who do not want to buy from Hong Kong, there are US sellers on eBay selling pH litmus paper but they either charge more or only sell in smaller quantities. You can also find pH litmus paper at any Hydroponics store.
