(Original thread was accidentally deleted)

Ok, so everyone sees threads on other forums that ask for your favorite <insert Lake> Cichlid.
This thread is asking for the ONE Malawi Cichlid that you WOULD NEVER keep.

I will start...
Metriaclima lombardoi aka Kenyi.

There are plenty of hybrids (Firefish at the top of the list) that I would not keep, but lets keep this thread to pure bred Malawi's.

Hybrid peacocks, and most Mbuna... I'm mainly a pure peacock and Haplochromine person. Though I do not like a lot of the more common haps like Red Empresses, C. borleyi (except for the Mara Rocks variant if it ever gets imported), etc.

There are many Malawians that I would not keep. At the top of the list is melanochromis auratus.

:point: That one was on my list as well. So I'll have to put Tropheops Chilumba as one I wouldn't ever consider keeping again --even as a freebie!

I have to agree with Joe and Chris. The Melanochromis Auratus is an absolute psychopath. I had one relentless attack fish twice his size. I tried partitioning him off, he tried to escape to continue his attacks. I finally kept moving him to smaller and smaller tanks by himself. That is the one fish I had no remorse when he finally kicked the bucket and became a floater.

I have them and a female is holding! I like their nastiness! Sort of like Demasoni are to themselves but they hate everyone in the tank!

Another vote for auratus...which are, of course, one of the most commonly available malawi fish...

Forget auratus. They're not that bad in the right situation. The key with auratus is tank size. In a big enough tank, they'e a great-looking fish that gets along with everyone else. The fish you don't want is G. mento, which used to be regularly available but I haven't seen them in quite a while. This is the fin/scale eater of Lake Malawi. You don't want to keep them in with anything and they even attack each other.

Met. lombardoi here.... Lab. caeruleus is a close second though....

tuff to pin down just one. I would have to say that auratus are pretty psychotic, and too common for me to bother with.

Although after having tons of malawians through out the past 20+ years, I dont care for any species with brown females these days...

Probably a one-off, but worst I've had was a Ps. elongatus chewere. He was the last addition to a 4', 25+ adult mbuna tank. The "shepherd" claimed 2/3 of the tank in a few hours, and was relentlessly trying to get more real estate in a not so nice manner.

Needless to say he was gone the next day........

Metriclima Estherea (Red Zebra). I can't stand these freakin things!

Aside from the auratus I previously mentioned, I would have to add a red top zebra to the list. I have one that loves to kill it's tankmates. The one I have has killed over 20 fish. I should just flush him.

I'd have to go with the Melanochromis chipokae extremely aggressive.

Other than a small chase no problem's yet.
They all hold there own very well.
I'll take them from any one who want's to get rid of them.
Free of course:whistle:
Forgot the topic. please forgive. Any of the giant's: Bucco's/Dimi/ etc. etc. Fish tank not Fish Aquariums!!!!!
