this is quartz covered with a ceramic coating. it comes in two grades "s" or "t" grades and a variety of colors. it doesnt bleed or fade either. my fish and loaches love to dig in it. being that its heavier then sand it makes cleaning easy and it doesnt get caught up in my filters either. also at 21.00/50lb its really a steal as well. imo it beats tahitian moon sand hands down.

This is nice stuff. I use it in my 75g. Only real PITA is rinsing the stuff, takes a good bit of time and will turn your sink/tub/bucket/hands coal black

I use the course black. Have used the fine stuff in the past, but found that it packed down to much and it sucked up to e-z when doing water changes.

I use the finer grade. If you rinse a little at a time it goes much faster. The bags I bought said it was "ceramic coated crystle".

I use the "Buff" S-Grade color. I use it in my 265g and my 120g and once again I too can say the fish love it...and I do too.

You can see what it looks like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA3DeRH6jzY&fmt=18
